County of Jones Adult Protective Services Social Worker in Trenton, North Carolina

Description: Work in this class involves providing intensive social work services in serious and complicated cases which require the flexible use of a wide range of social work skills and intervention techniques. Services are provided in a variety of settings including local human services agencies, public health departments, correctional facilities, teaching hospitals, medical schools, juvenile training centers, and state institutions. Work may involve investigation of alleged neglect, abuse, or exploitation; providing in-depth assessment of family dynamics and needs, assessment, intervention and treatment of patients and or families with acute to severe medical and/or emotional disorders and mental illnesses; serving as expert witness at court hearings; or advanced social work intervention, and instruction. Additional work will include Guardianship oversight. Employees report to clinic managers, program directors, or unit supervisors.

Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their applications to complex casework, group work and community problems.
  • Provides intensive case evaluation and assessment for elderly and disabled adults who are in serious and complication situations associated with abuse, neglect or exploitation.
  • Attends court proceedings and work cooperatively with the Agency legal staff to draft petitions; prepare court reports and necessary documents; and testify in court in support of the Agency position in legal matters. Must often work with complex and involved family dynamics, acute to severe medical and/or emotional disorders and mental illnesses that the client may possess as well as handle emergencies and crises as they arise-on an almost daily basis. Serves as back up for emergency intake services during office hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience; or
  • A Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; or
  • Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or
  • A Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and three years directly related experience; or
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and four years directly related experience providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Applicants may qualify for a work against appointment with a certain degree of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • This position is also mandatory to work in emergency shelters in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
  • This employee will be required to perform other duties as assigned in a small office.
  • Additional Requirements: Candidates will be subject to drug testing and criminal background check.
  • A valid North Carolina Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
