Wealth Segment

The Wealth team is responsible for understanding market trends and client needs across Asia-Pacific’s diverse Wealth markets and translating these into commercial opportunities for our business. The team works with regional distributors and banks, as well as global private banks and insurers to offer the full range of BlackRock active funds, ETFs and alternatives products.

We partner with clients to build bespoke solutions that meet their specific needs, while offering model portfolios and discretionary investment offerings backed by our market-leading in-house technology and risk analytics. The team sits across Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China Offshore, Australia and Japan, and works closely with colleagues around the globe to deliver the best of BlackRock to APAC Wealth investors.

Job Purpose/Background:

BlackRock’s APAC Wealth business is looking for an experienced Director for Japan Wealth to help lead the strategic relationships with main distributors for Japan.

The primary responsibility of the role will be to drive enterprise engagement and bring all of BlackRock’s capabilities to the local Wealth Market. The role holder should have a passion for strategic thinking and will partner with clients to identify mutually beneficial collaboration areas and works closely with colleagues in US and EMEA for global connectivity.

The candidate is responsible for Wealth sales in Japan and works closely with the product teams to contribute to product development and new product ideas.

The candidate will help define and drive the sales execution plans for the defined product focus areas across the Wealth client business; deliver the firm, our value proposition, investment capabilities and commercial messaging to clients, facilitate our clients to help end-investors to achieve their financial goals and investment objectives.

Reporting to the Head of Japan Wealth, the successful candidate will possess a deep knowledge of Japan Wealth distribution, the index/ETF and active fund markets, investment management, capital markets, sustainable investing and alternative strategies. Additionally, the candidate must have exceptional communication skills, the ability to form trusted relationships and work across the organization to build consensus for tactical and strategic sales initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain deep relationships with senior clients (engage at C-Suite level and with key decision makers), including prospective ones, and drive top-down influence to enable wealth management business transformation;

  • Review mid/long-term wealth market and key client opportunities, execute the Japan Wealth sales strategy to grow the business across products, portfolio solutions and technology offerings;

  • Identify and execute enterprise-level engagements with key clients in Japan that can transform existing relationships into deeper partnerships based on an understanding of clients’ wealth goals spanning both distribution, product and technology;

  • Engage in regular account-level planning to identify business opportunities and prospects, and work closely with other team members to be accountable for sales targets;

  • Partner closely with the Head of Client Product Strategy, Head of Solutions & Structuring and other functions to formulate client sales & marketing and plan product campaigns;

  • Develop strong relationships with all groups within the APAC Wealth Business, as well as more broadly with global Wealth business and across BlackRock’s regional platform to drive connectivity;

  • Represent BlackRock both internally and externally across the Japan Wealth landscape, engaging with regulators, industry bodies and other stakeholders on the future development and evolution of the asset and wealth management;

Experience/Qualifications:

  • 10 years+ of proven industry experience, background in wealth management is a plus

  • Strong track-record of commercial achievement and impact in asset or wealth management

  • Excellent understanding of the asset management industry and the Japan wealth management landscape

  • Exceptional client relationship skills, including in establishing and growing senior level connectivity – with the ability to navigate and influence large client organizations

  • Extensive experience of working with clients to understand their immediate and long-term needs, and building commercial plans across offerings to help achieve these

  • Understanding of marketing and market outreach methods for reginal channels

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with APAC regional and global teams, operating across a large global organization

  • Strong team management mindset, focused on driving a high-performance culture and career development for junior team members

  • Strong presentation skills and ability to deliver ideas with impact

  • Fluent in English and Japanese
