JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Respiratory Therapist, Transport, provides patient care in a mobile environment to high-risk patients and their families being transported. The Respiratory Therapist, Transport acts as a hospital-wide resource for establishing and maintaining a high-quality standard of care for the neonatal and pediatric transport population. Accountable for organizing, implementing, and coordinating patient care as directed by the Physician for the purpose of stabilization of the transfer to a tertiary or Special Care Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Performs and directs the administration of respiratory care services (including but not limited to oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, inhaled medication, airway clearance, intubation, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and bedside spirometry), as ordered by a patient attending physician, in a quality manner that is in accordance with established procedures. Administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations.

Reviews physician's orders, examines patient's diagnostic test results and provides appropriate therapy based on the patient's current clinical condition. If appropriate, implements approved protocols as directed by a physician.

Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental operations, policies, procedures, products, and programs relating to the transport environment and patient population.

Demonstrates data skills necessary to resolve complex patient problems in a mobile environment, develop standards of care and procedures, and evaluate the quality of respiratory care.

Documents all treatments and therapies given, any supplies used and accurately files all corresponding charges. Reports outcomes of therapeutic interventions and makes recommendations as appropriate.

Adheres to established policies including but not limited to infection control and isolation policies, HIPPA, time and attendance, and social media.

In the Fixed Wing/Rotor Wing/Ambulance, must be able to lift/carry 50 pounds, push/pull up to 40 pounds occasionally, reach overhead moderately, move up moderately, squat/bend/kneel occasionally, sit/stand moderately, walk/move about frequently, tolerate tight quarters, small spaces and sit in a confined space.

Maintains current state of physical and mental wellbeing, standard aircraft seat belts will fit without alterations, able to function in the cabin of an aircraft without physical restrictions.

The Registered Respiratory Therapist, Transport, must live within a one hour drive, or fewer than sixty (60) miles from the base of operation (whichever is greater).

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Advanced knowledge of Respiratory Care modalities, therapies, equipment and medications.

Must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.

Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both orally and in writing.

Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Must have critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.

Able to balance multiple demands and respond to time constraints.

Able to pass a pre-placement physical exam, including functional capacity exam assessing durability (raise 100 pounds) and flexibility.

General computer skills, including but not limited to: data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand-held scanning, and email.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - Associate's or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification

  • EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience in NICU required

  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

ACLS (ACLS)

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Pedi Adv Life Support (PALS)

Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS): Must have an RRT-NPS from the NBRC upon hire or transfer or within 1 year.

Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP): Licensed by the State of Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Reg Respiratory Therapist (RRT): Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the NBRC.
