SUNY Upstate Medical University Social Worker- Emergency Department in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

In this position, the Social Worker will provide support and work coverage in the Emergency Department for both pediatric and adult patients, for the entire Downtown Campus during evening hours and weekend coverage. The Social Worker provides comprehensive psycho-social assessment, management and support to at risk patients and families. In addition, the social worker addresses social determinants of health and works closely with the multidisciplinary team to support the needs of the patients and families. Through the use of a wide range of interventions and treatment modalities, the Social Worker contributes to the achievement of optimum health, satisfaction and cost-effective care by addressing the behavioral, social and environmental issues which may impede care.

Minimum Qualifications:

M.S.W from a Social Work program accredited by the Council on Social Work (CSWE); M.S.W., L.M.S.W., L.C.S.W. or eligible, 3 years relevant post-master's experience (preferably in a hospital and/or healthcare environment) required.

New M.S.W. graduates who are L.M.S.W. eligible will be considered for appointment to entry level (SL2) position at a commensurate salary after obtaining a Limited Permit. Incumbent must obtain L.M.S.W. within 12 months of receipt of limited permit.

Work Days:

Evenings 3pm-1130pm with every other weekend rotation. Includes occasional on-call/holiday coverage on a rotation based on operational needs
