The registered nurse provides high quality, skilled nursing services to assist patients to achieve optimum health and functional health status following an illness requiring hospitalization. Through collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals, the nurse prepares the patient and family for discharge to home or another setting for continued care.
Virginia Mason’s Gastrointestinal Unit is a fast-paced, 26 bed medical/surgical floor specializing in the care of patients with a variety of acute gastrointestinal disorders. Our expert GI nurses partner with our world class physicians and interdisciplinary team to deliver safe, quality care to patients of all ages from young adult through older adult. Our best practice nursing model is defined as primary nursing and is best described as a dynamic, collaborative, team approach between RN’s, nursing assistants, and multi-disciplinary provider’s. The GI unit is a great place to contribute to patients’ healing through expert care and patient education and a dynamic environment to grow your practice as a front line leader and expand your knowledge of the complex GI population.
Our gastroenterologists and hepatologists are recognized internationally for treatment of diseases and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. Virginia Mason received special recognition for high performance in gastroenterology and GI surgery in the U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings. Virginia Mason also was cited by U.S. News as one of the top medical centers in the nation for treatment of GI disorders. Virginia Mason's Liver Center of Excellence is excited to be the first in the Pacific Northwest to offer the non-invasive FibroScan technology to evaluate disease stage in patients diagnosed with liver conditions. Our board-certified and peer-recognized bariatric surgeons are skilled at minimally-invasive (laparoscopic) bypass, adjustable gastric band and sleeve gastrectomy procedures, plus revision surgery.
A current and valid Washington State Registered Nurse License is required for this position.
CPR certification is required every two years or as specified by the work.
At least one year inpatient/hospital med/surg RN experience required.
Preferred: At least one year med/surg GI RN experience.BSN degree strongly preferred.
