The Manager, Design & Construction manages a group of project managers, project engineers and move coordinator to carry out capital projects to meet the project scope, schedule and budget objectives. The manager is responsible for assigning work and supporting the project managers to successfully meet the project objectives while managing their own projects. This position is also responsible for managing the work request system, staff moves, furniture repairs, small capital renovation projects, and supervises staff assigned to this work. This position organizes, directs, and manages all involved parties and activities to complete work in a timely fashion and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction. This is a working manager position that is expected to take a hands-on approach to completing tasks and managing this work.

  • Manage the project management staff responsible for capital projects in the small to medium range ($1M value). Ensure that standard work for project processes are followed. Successfully meet the project scope, schedule and budget targets..

  • Manage the workload of the project management staff and work with the director of Design and Construction to provide adequate resources. Supervise the activities of project managers, project engineers and move coordinator in support of capital projects and work requests. Provide support needed to overcome barriers and challenges.

  • Personally manage capital projects and facility renovations (up to $1M) within the agreed upon scope, schedule, and budget. Coordinate with Virginia Mason departments, clinical staff, support staff, and various levels of management to develop requirements, budget, phasing plans, and schedule for assigned projects. Coordinate the activities of all vendors participating in the project. Procure furniture and equipment to meet the project schedule. Initiate and track assigned projects via Virginia Mason capital project management process.

  • Comply with Construction Safety Team’s requirements (Work Plan Risk Assessment (WPRA), utility shutdown, etc.).

  • Manage the work request system and ensure that work requests are executed in a timely fashion and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Manage the operation of the cross functional move team. Manage warehouse spaces and the stock of used furniture and equipment

  • Develop and maintain signage standards and manage the signage at all Virginia Mason locations.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 5 years Project Engineer, and 5 years of Project Management experience or equivalent experience required.

Preferred experience includes a degree in architecture and a background medical planning and direct supervision of project management staff. Also desired is experience as a program manager for capital projects. Certificate in Construction Management from the University of Washington or similar program preferred.
