Indian Health Service Social Worker - DE in Pinon, Arizona

Summary This position is located at Chinle Service Unit, Pinon Health Center, Counseling Services Department, Pinon, Arizona. This position will provide a variety of clinical social work services and therapy, discharge planning and case management activities to children, adolescents and their families. The provider will provide patient intervention, evaluation, treatment planning, care coordination and monitoring services with various existing Federal, Tribal, State and other local resources. Responsibilities The position is based at the Pinon Health Center with some time allocated at the Pinon School District through the Teen Health Clinic, and other schools within the Pinon Service Area. Exercises mature professional judgment and flexibility in handling a wide range of social work skills including performing clinical psychosocial assessments, diagnosis, and treatment of children, adolescents and their families who present with a wide range of difficult health-related psycho-social and environment problems. Provides individual, group and family counseling, treatment and management of a broad range of mental illnesses and emotional complaints affecting children, adolescents and their families. Makes independent professional decisions and recommendations for patient care planning regarding financial needs, alternate resources, hospital discharge, home or to another hospital or alternative living, community based, or contract care behavioral health rehabilitation. Assesses and intervenes in crisis mental health presentations and provides appropriate interventions and referrals to ensure safety and security of patient and their family. Provides health prevention in-services to community, school and staff on mental health issues. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: Social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-09: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree or Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples include: Performing initial screening, assessment and evaluation of patients and families with supervision. Identifying treatment needs and barriers to growth and development; developing treatment plans that address and specifying outcomes with supervision. Making professional patient care decisions with supervision. Providing individual, and group counseling with supervision. Assessment and intervention in acute crisis mental health cases with supervision. Providing health prevention in-services to community, and to schools. GS-11: Three (3) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples include: Making independent professional decisions, and recommendations for patient care planning. Providing therapeutic treatment modalities with regard to cultural sensitivity in providing patient care to individual, family and groups. Assessment and intervention in acute crisis mental health cases and providing appropriate treatment plans ensuring safety and security of patient and their families. Providing health prevention education presentations to the community, tribal programs, and in schools. SELECTIVE FACTOR: Must possess an active, unrestricted license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) from any U.S. State. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized.
