Fairview Health Services RN-Emergency Department Inpatient Nurse (New Grad Residency Program) in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

This position works 48 hours per 2 week pay period (.6 FTE) on the night shift, 12 hour shifts, and every third weekend rotation.

We are hiring RN's for a newly defined area! M Health Fairview is looking for their next RN to join the Inpatient Emergency Department at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN! Are you ready to join our team?

The Registered Nurse in the EDIN (Emergency Department Inpatient Nurse) is responsible and accountable for monitoring and caring for inpatients who are admitted waiting for an inpatient bed. We offer a multidisciplinary approach to all emergencies and are cross trained to the Observation Unit.

This role will provide med/surg nursing experience within the ED setting. After one year of experience in this role, the RN will have an opportunity to cross-train and transition into the emergency department.

What Is the Nurse Residency Pilot Program?

The Nurse Residency Program is designed to bridge the gap between academia and real-world clinical practice as new grad/novice nurses make transition from nursing school to hospital nursing practice. This program offers an organized, structured, and practice-based learning environment that helps newly graduated nurses’ transition smoothly into the dynamic and fast-paced world of healthcare. This program is a testament to our commitment to fostering the growth and development of our nursing team by providing an environment where new nurses can learn and supplementing the work that our nurse preceptors do with new orientees.

What to Expect:

  • Structured Learning: Nurse residents will engage in a structured curriculum as part of program (8 hours of learning every 2 months for 12 months) that covers essential skills like time management, interprofessional teaming, communication, wellbeing, social determinants of health, critical thinking, and more! This program aims to deliver a confident, competent graduating cohort.

  • Mentorship: Each resident will encounter several mentorship opportunities throughout the program to claim the guidance, support, and valuable insights needed to thrive.

  • Networking: Residents can connect with their peers, build relationships, and collaborate on practice-based learning opportunities.

  • Hands-On Experience: The program includes hands-on clinical experiences to help nurses apply their knowledge in real healthcare scenarios; we are piloting virtual reality as a formative learning experience!

Responsibilities Job Description

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN will be in charge of performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required:

  • MN RN License

  • BLS required

  • AD required

Preferred:

  • BSN or higher preferred

  • Certification by Emergency Nurses Association (CEN) and/or Advanced Trauma Nursing (CATN)

  • 1 year of emergency department, med/surg, or critical care experience

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire
