We are seeking an Orthoptist to join our growing Ophthalmology team on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis, MN. We are a tight-knit, collegial team that consists of 5 Orthoptists, 2 Neuro-Ophthalmologists, and 27 Ophthalmology subspecialists driven to provide the best eye care for our patients. Practicing at an academic medical center, we have the opportunity to teach and oversee medical residents, fellows, and technical staff in Orthoptist related areas including a UMN Orthoptist fellowship. We use state-of-the-art technology for imaging, laser treatment, and diagnostics and enjoy a multitude of resources to support our practice. Our dedicated Eye Care team of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Orthoptists and Nurses, along with Certified Technicians and Assistants, provide next level diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the eye using state of the art technology. Our providers specialize in various ophthalmology and optometry subspecialties including Cornea and Refractive Surgery, Glaucoma, Neuro Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and Vitreoretinal Disease. Our all-inclusive approach ensures our present and future patients receive the best outcome possible. Orthoptist Overview Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Our Orthoptist team diagnoses and treats disorders of the visual system, particularly binocular vision and amblyopia. Under supervision of the Ophthalmologist, our Orthoptists tests eye muscles and prescribes treatments for eye misalignment and amblyopia to children and adult patients. We work collaboratively with physicians, fellows and residents in the diagnosis and treatment plan for patients of all ages, as well as working independently to manage patient care as directed by an Ophthalmologist. We discuss treatment plans with the patients/parents of patients in a way that is easily understood - explaining surgical and non-surgical options. Our team is committed to educating the next generation of eye care professionals. We help develop skills of medical fellows and residents, update, create and deliver lesson content for our specialty and check Orthoptic work. We seek out opportunities to present and to teach at a national level through membership in professional organizations. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Science related area with one year of post-graduate training Eligibility for Certified Orthoptist Certification Post graduate training: satisfactory completion of 24 months of orthoptic training in an AOC accredited program. Experience working with children and adults with vision problems Knowledge of retinoscopy, Lensometry, sensorimotor exams, prism application, lecturing and research papers and articles Proven ocular motility diagnosis and co-management Preferred Qualifications Orthoptic certification.
