Amazon Business Intelligence Engineer, NDPE in Bellevue, Washington

Description

The role of Business Intelligence Engineer II within the Network Design Planning & Engineering (NDPE) analytics team in GTS organization is responsible for building analytical solutions to propose designs that reduce cost to serve and improve customer speed. The BIE II focuses on both near term and long term 1P requirements that enable capacity growth, cost reduction, faster speed, better quality and greater sustainability in our transportation network.

Key job responsibilities

The BIE II collaborates closely with data engineers, program managers, data scientists and business stakeholders to provide business intelligence solutions for NDPE. BIE II acts as the go-to technical expert for data sources and visualization, gathering and deploying BI requirements with business stakeholders. BIE II engages with cross-functional teams and leadership within NDPE and various organizations including ATS LH, SCOT, APEX, TESS, NASC, NACF, AMZL, MOP and GTS Finance teams to design appropriate scalable BI solutions for business problems, prioritize analytics efforts, and deliver solutions that enhance the customer experience and reduce costs.

The Business Intelligence Engineer II needs to continuously make business decisions on prioritization of features/dashboards while keeping the speed of business in mind. BIE II refines requirements from business stakeholders and converts them into functional designs that solve problems. BIE II identifies trends, articulates insights and develops action plans leveraging data to improve Amazon’s transportation network. BIE II identifies new ways to implement solutions at scale and ensures that solutions are flexible enough to meet the changing business requirements.

This role develops and maintains sophisticated data models that recommend network design improvements in alignment with NDPE goals and objectives. BIE II creates dynamic and interactive data visualizations to effectively convey complex information to stakeholders. BIE II constructs visual mapping options that effectively illustrate distribution patterns and core transportation metrics.

The BIE II creates new business tools to automate manual processes and expedites the identification and improvement of data integrity issues. BIE II places a strong emphasis on operational excellence by proactively identifying quality issues and proposing solutions that streamline processes for increased efficiency and ease of maintenance. BIE II drives consensus on data sources and methodologies for metric calculation, documents the aligned processes and onboards everyone to use the single source of truth.

This position quantifies the impact of process improvements and helps stakeholders identify root causes of defects, measuring progress. BIE II communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. BIE II excels in documenting and presenting BI solutions to business stakeholders in a clear and straightforward manner, ensuring that complex concepts are communicated in a simplified and easily understandable fashion.

In conclusion, the role of BIE II in the NDPE analytics team is instrumental in shaping Amazon's transportation network to be more efficient, cost-effective, faster and customer-centric.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field

  • 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience

  • Experience writing complex SQL queries

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab

  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

  • Knowledge of advanced skills in Excel as well as any data visualization tools like Tableau or similar BI tools (familiarity with Tableau preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field

  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $79,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
